ROWIAL My first encounter with Artur Schnabel. Great! According to Sven (see below) and to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artur_Schnabel#Orchestral_works he was a rather close friend of Schoenberg; as well as (Wikip.:) ’Among the 20th century's most respected and important pianists ...’
I.m.o Schnabel offers remarkable and quite melodic variations/ alternatives to Schoenberg here. It's absolutely rewarding to "invest" some time - and, please, also a little money - discovering these symphonies.

Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) It was a fan named "Rivendell Record Shopp" who triggered my purchase of these two symphonies, as well as another one by Arthur Schnabel from the same label. Admittedly, I didn't know this composer before, but after reading that he was contemporary and even a friend of Arnold Schönberg sparked my interest. Indeed, there's some similarity in the way these two composer relaxed the laws of tonality in a quite convincing way, paving the way for atonal music. Favorite track: Schnabel: Symphony No. 1 - IV. Allegro Molto.
